Rachel's Original Note of July 6, 2020
Hey All —
Thanks to all of you for the many offers to help Mom and
me in getting her moved and settled in new place.
I’ve been noodling over some ideas of how to put people’s
different skill sets and geographic restrictions to the best use, because for
sure she and I will collapse if we try to tackle it all...
I have the following ideas and wonder how you all feel?
Some of these are just confirming items we’ve previously discussed and others
are new requests!
1) Sale of Rev Rd - Maybe Michael and I can be the
visible leaders on this one, but since it represents such an enormous asset,
we’ll bounce stuff off you whenever possible to make sure we all agree.
2) packing and moving logistics - Mom obviously needs to
be the primary here and she’s doing a great job. As we get further along,
Michael and I will both spend time helping, and if there are lists Mom can make
to be done while she’s away, Todd and Michelle have offered to help. Michael
will come for a few days sometime between 7/15-7/23 and RW will be more helpful
in early August or after Sept 8. Movers will come either week of Sept 15 or
Sept 23.
3) purchase negotiations on Concord Greene - Given Beth’s
smooth tongue, I suggest she can help do communications with Buddy, but given
her new job, I’d like to keep her out of numerous legal and financial
wranglings.
4) getting a bridge loan for Mom to buy Concord Greene. Ron,
would you be willing to do the legwork on this if I agree to be the “in person“
go to as needed when we get there? Bottom line is that she could pull money
from her IRA and pay cash, but then when we sell Rev Rd, she’d have too much
cash and the income on it would all be subject to high annual taxes, so I think
we’re better off keeping those funds in the IRA and accessing a short term loan
here. Thoughts?
5) Insurance and utilities for new place - Ginnie, if I
get you contact name can you work with Mom’s broker on insurance once we know
if it’s renters or owners? Also maybe you can work with Mom to make sure she
has a plan for home phone, internet, cable tv electricity, etc. She can do a
lot of these herself but some may require talking through numbers and dates and
she’ll have a harder time with that part.
6) what am I forgetting?
Let me know if you guys a) think this makes sense and b)
can commit to the work I’m asking of you.
Many thanks!
Rachel
